Halloween hot chocolate bombs

As the weather gets colder and the chill in the air leaves you longing for hot chocolate, there's nothing like enjoying a delicious hot chocolate treat while snuggled up by the fire. In the spirit of Halloween, we made these adorable Jack O' Lantern hot chocolate bombs filled with spooky sprinkles and pumpkin spice marshmallows that will surely rattle your bones!

INGREDIENTS

1 bag melted white chocolate chips

1 Tbl shortening

Yellow and red food coloring

Hot chocolate powder

Spooky sprinkles *Wilton has great options, including large eye balls

Marshmallows *Can be mini, or fun Halloween shapes and flavors

Jack O' Lantern mold

1 - 2 cups hot milk

Disposable gloves

DIRECTIONS

  1. Melt the white chocolate chips with shortening using a microwave or double boil method. Add drops of yellow and red food coloring, stirring until it meets your desired orange color.

  2. Use a spook to spread the melted chocolate inside the Jack O' Lantern mold, spreading until the surfaces are covered. Repeat once the chocolate cools a bit inside the mold (keeping the melted chocolate warm) so it adds another thick layer. Let harden for a few hours or overnight in the fridge.

  3. Once hardened, pop the chocolate out of the molds and set aside.

  4. Take the bottom half of the pumpkin and fill with hot chocolate powder. Add marshmallows and spooky sprinkles. Repeat for the other bottom parts.

  5. Next, using disposable gloves, take the top half and place on a hot pan until part of the chocolate melts, and adhere it to the bottom half. If it's not sticking enough, you can re-melt some of the leftover orange chocolate and run your finger with melted chocolate around the seam to seal the two halves. Repeat for remaining halves.

  6. When ready, place the hot chocolate bomb into a cup of hot milk and mix until combined.
