Festive holiday tables start with traditional yet elegant dish collections! One of my favorite patterns is the charming holly and berry motif with gold banding of the Holiday Traditions Dinnerware Collection from Mikasa. The timeless red and green hues pop, and are a sentimental reminder of the gorgeous tables my my and Nana created during the holiday season - and are reminiscent of my childhood.
As you look to create beautiful traditions in your own home, the table is often the place that truly gathers family together - so why not elevate it with a gorgeous setting?! To replicate at home, I'm sharing a few tips and tricks...but remember, the most important part is making it your own!
Red, green, & gold hues
To bring out the colors of the holly, I was drawn to the red and gold hues that add a very rich color palette to the table but emulate a traditional holiday setting. Start with a subtle or textured gold tablecloth so the dishes stand out, Home Goods is a great place for affordable yet quality table linens like Waterford or Ralph Lauren. Sticking to a primary color scheme will make your table feel cohesive but also draw out the dish patterns.
Pretty in poinsettias
Funny enough, I've never used poinsettias in my centerpieces before, but I was inspired by the gorgeous deep red of the holly in the plates - and I knew the vibrant red of the flower would make the table pop. Start with varying sizes, and place each flower inside a gold votive to hide the plastic pots of the flowers. Then, cascade the sizes with largest in the middle followed by smaller flowers on either side. I love lining the table with flowers but you could also create clusters or groupings in the center instead.
Head to your local nursery center for beautiful poinsettias and your craft store or Home Goods for affordable ornament options! I prefer to go in person to see the textures and quality of the ornaments.
Gold accents add a touch of glimmer
Once the flowers were in place, I wove in gold leaf garland around each votive that added volume to the table. Then, placing gold ornaments with different textures - from sparkly to metallic - along with vintage bells around the holes and between the flowers gave the table an extra touch of details. The shimmer of the gold also made the table glow at night, which added a touch of whimsical holiday magic.
Tie it with a bow!
Attention to detail is a key pillar when creating a tablescape, which is why adding things like a velvet red ribbon around the napkins and a sprig of greenery goes a long way for the aesthetic of the table. Other ideas include gold gift crackers, more vintage bells or a gold leaf around the napkin. I've also folded napkins like a Christmas tree or bow before which is another fun way to present your napkins.
What a delightful guide to elevating holiday table decor with classic holly motifs! The timeless charm of holly pairs beautifully with natural elements like oak coffee tables, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. Your creative tips inspire a festive touch that blends tradition with style. I can't wait to try these ideas for a cozy holiday setup.
