Irish whiskey, orange and honey cocktail

This refreshing whiskey cocktail is perfect for St. Patrick's Day! An artfullyalissa creation, we're calling it 'The MaGoo.' For the longest time my dad's nickname has been MaGoo, a fun play on words with our last name which is very Irish. Of course, it channels our Irish roots and was made in celebration of one of our favorite holidays. The sweetness of the honey and zesty orange adds a nice pairing to a strong Irish whiskey, so I hope you enjoy this tasty cocktail during your St. Patrick's Day shenanigans!

INGREDIENTS

Orange Simple Syrup

  • Equal parts water to sugar (I used 1 cup of each)

  • Orange peels from two oranges (you can then squeeze them for the cocktail, see below)

'The MaGoo'

  • 3oz Irish whiskey

  • 3 oz honey liqueur

  • 3 oz freshly squeezed orange juice (about 2 - 3 oranges)

  • 3 tsp orange simple syrup

  • 4 dashes bitters

DIRECTIONS

Orange Simple Syrup

  1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat, until simmering. Be sure to continually whisk until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. Once combined and simmering, remove from heat and let it sit for 5-10 mins for the flavors of the orange peels to absorb.

  3. Strain and store in a glass jar until you’re ready to use. When you're straining, remove the orange peels and place in a dish to set aside as a cocktail garnish.

'The MaGoo'

  1. Take a shaker and fill with ice, add in your Irish whiskey, honey liqueur, freshly squeezed orange juice, orange simple syrup and bitters. Shake for about thirty seconds.

  2. Add ice to a tall glass or two small glasses. Place a few of the orange peels from the simple syrup into the glass or glasses. Pour the cocktail and serve with a beautiful orange peel on the top of the drink.
