Tips and tricks for hosting a St. Patrick's Day celebration

Ever since I was a little girl St. Patrick's Day has always been a special celebration with friends and family. From leprechaun traps to green milkshakes, my mom goes above and beyond creating unforgettable (and silly!) memories while preparing such a delicious, traditional Irish meal of corned beaf, cabbage and Irish soda bread.

This year was certainly different with everything going on in the world, but it truly was comforting maintaining a sense of normalcy with our beloved tradition and loving family around us. For those that are looking to make St. Patrick's Day special, I wanted to share tips I've learned over the years for creating a celebration you can cherish with loved ones in the comfort of your home.

Transform a room with green and gold

Weave green and gold throughout your space to really set the stage for a fun night. With our serving-ware, table linens, and little details, we used green as our base color, and added pops of gold with a long metal tray centerpiece, candle holders and balloons for a subtle touch.

Our balloon arch was an easy way to tie the colors together, and we used this very simple kit on Amazon! I've found these can really play up a room and can make for the perfect photo backdrop during any playful gathering.

St. Patricks Day inspired food

As with every St. Patrick's Day celebration we served up traditional corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, leaks and of course Irish soda bread! Take a few days to prepare your menu and you'll be able to find many of these classic recipes on Food Network, Martha Stewart or Food & Wine. For ours, my mom constantly evolves her delicious recipes so we only have a few written down.

Taking our food a step further, we also put together a themed St. Patrick's Day grazing board with orange and green snacks, including leaks, sugar snap peas, carrots, peppers and grapes. To play with textures and flavors, add a delicious stout infused cheese and sharp Irish cheddar. Although not pictured below, we also offered bangers and spinach & artichoke dip.

Quintessential St. Patrick's Day details

We wanted to ensure details shone throughout that really brought through the St. Patrick's Day theme! That's why we incorporated some luck of the Irish hints throughout our decor, such as shamrocks in our tablescape, St. Patrick's day table scatters, giant shamrocks on our French doors, and DIY pots of gold as keepsakes for guests. Really spend time leading up to your gathering by taking a look at your space and see what features can be highlighted.

The key is finding things that easily come together. Each of these elements were super simple to bring-to-life and went a long way with creating a whimsical space. We actually found the shamrock plants at Star Market while we had the table scatter from previous celebrations. For the giant shamrocks, I found this awesome tutorial on Pinterest and ordered this metallic paper for an extra shimmer.
